Apophenia: Escape To What (2020) PC: James Orez

Apophenia Album Review:

Vocalist James Orez was spot on in the interview -- Apophenia is fresh and it says, "Hello world, I'm here." This new release from Escape To What showcases what the band is capable of reaching, and we're here for it. This two-man act (James Orez & Jan O) channel Nine Inch Nails in their new album, and the outcome is definitely one you're going to want to check out.

Apophenia was produced in a way that every song is unique. This is one of my favorite aspects of the album, as it kept me on the edge of my seat as I listened. Even though the sound was structured and produced differently in every song, the emotion stirred by the lyrics throughout remained a constant. Listening to the album, one can hear and get a feel for the angst put into every song.

The two tracks "Hear Me Rattle" and "This Place Kills Me" showcase intense emotion the best. "This Place Kills Me," specifically, is an eerie track that traps the listener like they're in a horror movie. This definitely puts a spotlight on the intensity of the emotion behind the track.

One of the things Orez discusses during an interview with The SoundChick, is that he hopes the vocal style isn't too scary for listeners. For industrial metal, the vocal pattern was quite brilliant on this track. It also showcased versatility, as every track produced a new sound and energy to it. It was the perfect amount of calm and chaos, and it works perfectly for the Apophenia album.

If you're into artists like Nine Inch Nails or Rob Zombie, I would make sure to give Escape To What a chance. I think you just might find a new artist to add to your daily playlist. You can stream the album on Bandcamp ONLY.
